The UCF Knights Men’s Rugby Club has taken yet another step in its pursuit of a national championship. After finishing the season undefeated and raising the South Independent Rugby Conference trophy with convincing wins over Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee, we traveled to Knoxville, TN this past weekend with a much bigger goal in mind. No Florida team has ever advanced past the round of 8 so we knew we had our work cut out for us. Carrying the love and support of all of our proud followers, we set out on our journey to take our game to another level. As a team, we are proud to announce that we will be representing the South Region in the Final Four tournament, taking place May 11-12. We accomplished this feat after hard fought battles with Tennessee and Clemson that tested our character and will. Neither game came easy to the Knights but we showed our ability to persevere under stressful conditions, which will undoubtedly help us as we continue on our quest. We want everyone who donated to know that none of this could have been possible without your help and that you have been just as much a part of these wins as any of us. Not letting your hard-earned money go to waste has become a sort of theme for our team. We play each game for our families, our school, and all of you who have thrown a penny into the wishing well to help our dream come true. With your continued support, we hope to take the field against Dartmouth, which will surely be our toughest test yet. However, in order to make it to Bowling Green, Ohio to face the Big Green, we need your help one last time. Anything you can donate will surely help the club, as we need hotels, flights, vans, etc. for the players and coaches. Thank you for all of your continued support and please pass on the word of our cause to anyone who might be interested. You’ve truly been an inspiration to all of us as we refuse to let you down.
Go Knights!

There have been several red cards already this season. Most of the time, the players are unaware of the severity of the penalties associated with these cards. I am asking club officers to please pass on the sanctions associated with red cards so your players are aware of what they can expect. I have highlighted our most popular infractions below, along with a link to the full set of sanctions. This is for first offense, if it’s your second, it is worse.
1. Punching – first offense – 2 to 3 matches.
If the player is defenseless (meaning on the ground in a ruck, or you punch them in the back/while they are unaware)—8 to 11 matches.
2. Referee Abuse – for example, calling the ref a curse/cursing about the ref (even while walking away) for giving you a yellow or red card (this is not considered disputing a call, it is considered ref abuse) – 3 to 5 matches. If you are disputing call, it is 1- 3 matches.
3. Dangerous Rucking – raking someone in a ruck – 8 to 11 matches, if directed at the head or neck – 9 to 20 matches
http://www.floridarugbyunion.com/handbook-3/ — scroll down to discipline
If your player receives a red card, the ref provides a report. It is in your club and player’s best interest to provide their version of what happened within 48H. Contact info and guidelines on how to do this can be found using the link above. Also, we track yellow cards. If a player receives a yellow card for same infraction in successive games, he gets a one week suspension. If he gets 4 in a year, its 2 matches.
Thanks for passing this on to your players, I am sure they will appreciate the heads up.

Discipline Chair

Daytona Beach Rugby will be competing for the USA Rugby Men’s Club 7s Championship this Saturday in San Francisco California. Given less than 2 weeks to come up with $11,000 to cover travel, vehicles, and hotels has proven to be very difficult. Almost as difficult as earning the right to represent Florida and the South. Players from Tampa Krewe, Miami Rugby, Naples Hammerheads, and Brevard Old Red Eye are part of the Squad making up the 12 for Daytona Beach Rugby. 10 of the 16 teams competing at Nationals have been a member of the USA super league in 15′s.
Donations of $100 will receive a Daytona Beach 7′s T-shirt
Donations of $500 will receive a tournament t-shirt from Nationals a Daytona Beach 7s Shirt, and a team signed ball
Donations of $1000 will also receive a signed team jersey of their choice
Every donation matters, double click the link below to go to our go fund me page. You can even donate anonymously so no one but you knows you helped out Daytona Beach.
