Final Opportunity for Players to Be Considered for Florida U-20 Team to Play Georgia on 11/21/09

    Thursday, November 5th, 2009

    Coaches:

In preparation for the Florida vs Georgia U-20 match on November 21st, just prior to the USA vs Uruguay test match in Ft. Lauderdale, we will hold our second practice session this weekend.  It will take place this Sunday, Nov-8th, from 10am to 2pm at FAU Henderson fields in Boca Raton.  This practice represents the last opportunity for Florida’s top players to tryout for the Florida U20’s team.  There will be final practice on November 15th but no new players will be introduced to the team at that session.

If you know of any players who would be capable and committed to attend the last 2 practices and the match, please make sure that they are aware of the game on November 21st and the practices leading up to it.  If you need any additional information, please give me a call.

    Thanks,

    Florida U 20’s Versus Geogia U 20’s 11/21/2009

    Monday, October 12th, 2009

    FL U 20’s versus GA U 20’s November 21st 2009

    Dear Coach,

As you know, USA Rugby officially announced recently that its Rugby World Cup Qualifier match against Uruguay will kick off at Broward County Regional Park in Lauderhill, Fla., on November 21 at 2 p.m. (EST). This is a huge honor for Florida Rugby and a must see event for everyone in the Rugby community in Florida to support.

In conjunction with the test against Uruguay, the FRU has arranged a match between the Rugby Academy of Florida U20’s team and the Rugby Academy of Georgia U20’s. This match will kick off at 11:00 AM (EST) and will be the curtain raiser for the RWC Qualifier Test Match.

This will be a once in a life time experience for the young men selected to play in this match. How many people can claim to have played in a curtain raiser before an International test Match?

Selection for this match will be based on the following criteria:

    • Players must be born 1/1/90 or after to be qualified as an U20 player.

    • Players will be evaluated during the All Florida Rugby Championships this coming weekend, October 17th and 18th in Tavares.

    • Coaches please send in a list of qualified players who you think might be able to play representative rugby.

    • Training/player evaluation camps will be held on Sunday November 1st and 15th in Orlando, and Sunday November 8th in Ft Lauderdale. Details to follow.

Any questions, please contact the RAF coaches or team manager:

Coaches Announce U23 Women’s All Star Tryouts

    Friday, October 9th, 2009

FRU would like to announce Mike Waterman & Kerri O’Malley as the Coaches for the 2009 All-Star U23 Season.

Both have extensive rugby resumes, so to name just a few highlights: Mike is a former Eagle with experience coaching both UCF and Orlando Women. Kerri currently coaches the Gainesville Men, and has previously coached UF to the Sweet 16 two times. We’d like to thank them for coming on board! Please also welcome Melissa Butler, who will be the 2009 Team Manager.

There will be a 2-day camp during All Florida Day Weekend, October 17 & 18.

This camp is open to any player interested in learning more rugby and playing for the the All-Star team.

Ladies must be 23 or under, as of January 1 this year.

On both days, coaches will work on team skills and use game based scenarios, including short scrimmages and games to make selections.

Camp times at ALL FLORIDA DAY are:

    SATURDAY: 4:30 – 6:30 on Field 3 at AFD

    SUNDAY: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM on Field 4

Interested players who want to be considered should contact Kerri directly at komalley@ufl.edu.

Send name, team, position(s) and their phone number, along with their availability for the camp and South All-Star Championship to be held the November 14 weekend.

The coaches will also identify interested players in advance through coaching recommendations, and scouting the games at AFD. However, because there will many players they may not be able to scout at AFD, all athletic / interested players should attend the camp and contact the coaches directly.

Several former FRU All-Stars have been selected to play for the South, and eventually selected for USA camps. Both Mike and Kerri are excited about teaching the girls more rugby and helping them take their game to the next level!

Watch for updates, coming soon from Melissa and the Coaches.

    Thanks,

    Raelyn Barlow
