FRU would like to announce Mike Waterman & Kerri O’Malley as the Coaches for the 2009 All-Star U23 Season.
Both have extensive rugby resumes, so to name just a few highlights: Mike is a former Eagle with experience coaching both UCF and Orlando Women. Kerri currently coaches the Gainesville Men, and has previously coached UF to the Sweet 16 two times. We’d like to thank them for coming on board! Please also welcome Melissa Butler, who will be the 2009 Team Manager.
There will be a 2-day camp during All Florida Day Weekend, October 17 & 18.
This camp is open to any player interested in learning more rugby and playing for the the All-Star team.
Ladies must be 23 or under, as of January 1 this year.
On both days, coaches will work on team skills and use game based scenarios, including short scrimmages and games to make selections.
Camp times at ALL FLORIDA DAY are:
SATURDAY: 4:30 – 6:30 on Field 3 at AFD
SUNDAY: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM on Field 4
Interested players who want to be considered should contact Kerri directly at komalley@ufl.edu.
Send name, team, position(s) and their phone number, along with their availability for the camp and South All-Star Championship to be held the November 14 weekend.
The coaches will also identify interested players in advance through coaching recommendations, and scouting the games at AFD. However, because there will many players they may not be able to scout at AFD, all athletic / interested players should attend the camp and contact the coaches directly.
Several former FRU All-Stars have been selected to play for the South, and eventually selected for USA camps. Both Mike and Kerri are excited about teaching the girls more rugby and helping them take their game to the next level!
Watch for updates, coming soon from Melissa and the Coaches.
Thanks,
Raelyn Barlow
