FRU Men’s Select Side Program Announced
At the January 2009 AGM you voted for the return of a men’s select side. A small budget was drawn up and it was left with the Board to come up with a suggestion.
Accordingly the following is proposed:
We will have 2 teams – North and South. The head coach for the North team will be Ricky Brown formerly of Jacksonville, and the South coach will be led by Frank Tito of Boca Raton. Both of these coaches will draw up a team of support coaches/selectors to prepare the teams.
Both will use the All Florida Weekend to assess players and talk with all coaches in attendance about potential players; which will also include collegiate and U 20 players. As some of these players will not be at All Florida Day, coaches please forward your recommendations to Frank or Ricky.
It will be helpful for all coaches to forward names of those players considered to be potentials. Frank email is frankbrotito@yahoo.com and Ricky’s rikbroon@hotmail.com.
The plan is to have one session held on October 30 for each North and South team to select a squad and work a game plan. (Each venue is to be decided.) The Intra-Florida Competition Game itself will take place on November 6, 2010. Again, this venue will be decided later – probably in Orlando which would make sense if a decent pitch can be made available. Following this game a Florida Select- Side Team will be chosen and announced which will then play Life Super League Team on December 4, 2010 in Tampa following the Florida Under 20 versus the New South Wales Country 15.

The membership and the Board have talked about this for years. This is the first step to bring back the Men’s Select Side Program. Remember to be successful we need your full cooperation and player participation to continue next season.

I spoke with most of you on the Florida Day, I asked for guy’s from each of your respective teams. (1 front row, 2 back five, and 2 backs)
I will contact you all in the next few day’s, but can you please forward me the names and positions of your candidates.
We would like to see some young up-n-comings too, not just the high flyers!
