National women’s U 19 ‘s
Congratulations to Senastian River and Jupiter girls for providing the bulk of the South squad. The championships wil lbe played at Millls Pond Lauderdale over the weekdn of the USA Uruguay game. Pleae give them your support.
LAU Presidents,
I am writing today regarding the South Women’s U19 All-Star program. On the weekend of November 21/22 these young women will be representing the South Territory at the U19 Invitational National All-Star Championship (INASC) in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This event includes teams from all seven territories plus the U17 Women’s National Team. We are also excited that this year the USA men will be playing Uruguay in Fort Lauderdale that weekend. The ladies are most excited about seeing such high-level rugby. The experience and enthusiasm for rugby will be shared by all ages and genders on this weekend.
In this fourth year of the program we are proud to report players attending five colleges, seven high schools, and three senior women’s clubs. We are very happy to see the first players from Deep South involved and participation from the new Brookwood program in Georgia. Sebastian River in Florida, the first varsity high school program in the country, is contributing the most number of players to the team with four. The MidSouth this year brings us our youngest ever player, McKenzie Hawkins, who at just 12 years of age already has more playing experience than most collegiates. Below is a breakdown of how the LAUs are represented this year:
Florida – 7
MidSouth – 5
Georgia – 4
North Carolina – 3
Palmetto – 3
Deep South – 2
North Carolina will be represented in Fort Lauderdale by three additional players from the Hoke Hurricanes program selected to play for the U17 Women’s National Team. Our Staff is represented by North Carolina, Florida, Palmetto, and the MidSouth. Head Lindsay Hagerman joins us as our new Head Coach this year. She is a leader and role model for all of the players.
In these tough economic times, all players are at risk of not being able to attend. We would like to recognize the Palmetto LAU for their direct contribution to helping their players with travel costs to this event. As we approach the event, the staff would like to ask each of the LAUs to consider a donation to this program. In the past LAU donations have been used to fund a President’s Dinner on one of the evenings during the tour. We would like to continue with that tradition again this year. As this is a self-funded program, any contribution made directly reduces the out-of-pocket costs of players, their families, and the staff.
We understand that contributions may require a vote of your executive board. However if you would like to make a pledge of support, the staff will be happy to cover those pledges until such time as your organization can follow through on the commitment. Please just let us know and we will work directly with you to make this as rewarding an experience for these young women as possible.
Thank you to all of the LAUs for their support and dedication to the development of our youngest players.
